Danica Patrick Joins NASCAR
|
NASCAR added some much-needed star power to its stable of drivers Thursday. Danica Patrick ended months of speculation when she announced she's leaving the IndyCar circuit in 2012 to join NASCAR full time. Patrick, one of the biggest stars in auto racing, will run a full Nationwide schedule with JR Motorsports and as many as 10 Sprint Cup races for Stewart-Haas Racing.Patrick, who became the first woman to win an IndyCar race when she took the checkered flag at Japan in 2008, has driven a limited schedule on NASCAR's minor-league circuit over the last two years. "I've truly enjoyed my experience in NASCAR, to the point that I want to do it full-time," Patrick said at a press conference from her sponsor GoDaddy's offices in Scottsdale, Ariz. While she's piled up more racy photo shoots than victories doesn't mean Patrick hasn't been competitive behind the wheel.Along with her victory in Japan, Patrick became the first woman to lead the Indianapolis 500 (2005) and finished a career-best fifth in the IndyCar standings in 2009. She currently sits 12th in the standings, with seven top-10 finishes. The move is a huge blow to IndyCar where Patrick was the sports most visible driver. Likewise, it's a great get for NASCAR, which, while still the largest motorsports organization in the country, has seen its audience slip in recent years due to the economy, and some say, the lack of an outspoken driver. So what do you think? Are you a fan of NASCAR, and if so, are you excited about Patrick's move? Leave a comment below and let us know.....
